How to adjust slide text margins / lower third display

11/7/2013

A slide has 3 text areas:
  1. the body, which displays the song verse text (or a Bible verse),
  2. the header
  3. and the footer.

Area 4: VideoPsalm can display musical chords over the lyrics, this is a 4th text area, see further down.
This is how it looks like for a song verse:

Usually, the header of song verses is not used, and is empty. The footer is used instead.

Lower third: This is how it can look like with a green background and a relocated body area:

The header and the footer both can display text formatted according to templates/fields related to the body content, either from the song, the songbook or the Bible, etc.

To set the size and the location of the body area:
1. Select the "Body" (this button is selected by default).
2. Press the highlighted button ("Display the resize rectangle" button):

In the above screenshot, the "Display the resize rectangle" button is pressed, while the "Body" button is also pressed.
The preview area displays a relocation rectangle for the body area:

You can also resize it by grabbing the middle of a segment:

Before you move or resize the rectangle, make sure that you do it at the proper style level:

VideoPsalm uses the concept of cascading style attributes, enabling you to define any style attribute at any level: song verse, song, songbook, all songbooks, base.

Through the “Body”, “Header” and “Footer” style buttons, you can select which relocation rectangle is displayed.
Go ahead and select the footer rectangle:

When you are finished with the resizing of the relocation rectangle, don't forget to:
  1. Deselect the "Move/resize" button.
  2. Select the "Body" button again, so that changes that you do to style attributes apply to the body, which is what we do most of the time:

When a relocation rectangle is close to the screen borders, its corners are a bit harder to catch with the mouse, and may require trials and errors at time:

You can resize and relocate any of these three rectangles to whatever place and size you wish:

Depending on which text area button is selected, you see either the body, header or footer rectangle in the preview panel:

Notes
  1. The rectangles can overlap or they can be close to the screen borders, in which case it is harder to grab the right one.
  2. The size and location settings, like all style settings, are applied at the currently selected level: song verse, song, songbook, songbooks, base. The same is true for Bibles.
VideoPsalm uses the concept of cascading style attributes, enabling you to define any style attribute at any level: song verse, song, songbook, all songbooks, base.

Cascading styles “Must Read” articles:

  • How to remove an image assigned to a song verse
To relocate the text areas at the “Songbooks” style level, follow these steps:

1. Click on a song to display its verses in the slide list.
Any song will do:
Picture
2. Click on one of the verses to display the slide preview in the preview panel.
Any verse will do, this is only so that you see some text in the preview panel:
Picture
3. Change the style level to “Songbooks”:
Picture
4. Select which text area you want to relocate, for example the body:
Picture
5. Relocate the body text area in the preview panel:
Picture
The changes will be applied at the “Songbooks” style level, meaning that all song verses from all songs from all songbooks will get this setting, except for those higher up levels where you overrode this setting.
Higher up levels are “Songbook”, “Song” or “Song verse”, which follows the hierarchical styles principle.

When you have finished to relocate text areas, don't forget to deselect the “Resize” button:

Remember to save your changes with the “Save” button:

Side note
By default, VideoPsalm will not save changes that you do to Bibles, to prevent unexpected changes to the Biblical text. This also applies to the changes that you do to Bible styles.

Enable the saving of Bible changes in the VideoPsalm options:

VideoPsalm would anyway remind you to save your changes when you close it.

To install VideoPsalm on another PC without internet connection, you will need a USB key with around 100 Mb free space.

1. Download the latest VideoPsalm Installation Package from this page (click the first “Download” button at the top).

2. Install VideoPsalm on your PC. If Windows emits some warnings, dismiss and bypass them.

3. Use these instructions to add songbooks and Bibles to your VideoPsalm.

4. Open the VideoPsalm backup assistant:
Picture
5. In the “Backup” dialog that opens, select a folder from your USB key (See point 1 in the image bellow).
If the folder doesn't exist, it will be created automatically during the backup.
Select also the following check-boxes (See point 2 in the image bellow):
  • Create a portable VideoPsalm application
  • Add the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Setup
Picture
6. Run the backup by clicking on the button “Start the backup”. The backup take only a few seconds.

You now have a portable version of VideoPsalm on your USB key.
When plugged into another PC, you can start VideoPsalm from it, without needing to install it.
Simply open the USB key folder where you stored VideoPsalm, and start it by double-clicking on its application icon.
In case the PC where you start VideoPsalm doesn't have the Microsoft .NET Framework installed, install it first.
You will find the Microsoft .NET Framework Setup located in this same USB key folder.

7. If you want, go one step further and install VideoPsalm onto this other PC via the USB key.
Simply use the Windows file explorer to copy the VideoPsalm USB folder onto the PC's hard drive, for example on the “Desktop” or in “My Documents”.
You can then start VideoPsalm from this new location, and won't need the USB key on this PC anymore.

Alternatively, to copy the VideoPsalm folder from the USB key to the PC's hard drive, you can again use VideoPsalm's integrated backup function, to backup your USB VideoPsalm onto the PC:
  1. Start VideoPsalm from the USB key.
  2. Open the VideoPsalm backup assistant.
  3. Specify a folder located into your PC “My Document” folder.
  4. Make sure to select the check box “Create a portable VideoPsalm application”.
